This story was sent in by Freddrick Sanders' Aunt- she wanted to share his story with surviving the storm.
I wanted to take the time to write about how my cousin Freddrick Sanders survived the storm.
Freddrick is 18 years old and currently a high school senior. He has sickle cell anemia and
often times he has what they call "crisis." Well on Sunday, January 9, 2005 he had one of those
crisis and he was taken to Texas Children's Emergency Room. They admitted him and immediately
started to give him blood transfusion because his blood was sickling so bad. Well the more
blood they started to give him the more the blood was starting to sickle
and after a while his body was full of sickled blood cells. Because of this his heart rate
began to rise at a tremendous rate. It was as high as 200-215 at one point and when they saw
that, they transferred him to the Intensive Care Unit. While being in the Intensive Care Unit,
Frederick not only had a heart attack that damaged the front part of his heart but because of
the lack of oxygen to his brain he was also seizuring at the brain as well as he became temporarily
paralyzed all in one instance. Things were so bad that my cousin was in pampers. They continued
to monitor him and they keep informing us that they did not know the outcome because they had
never seen a patient that had sickle cell anemia do all of these things.
But through it all even he continued to have faith. While in the hospital we would look over and
see him with his eyes closed and mouth moving and we would ask him what he was doing and he would
inform us that he was praying. When he finally recovered enough to be transferred back to a regular
room, he told all of us that he was happy that the Lord sparred his life because he still had so
much to live for.
He is now back at home, he is not back in school yet because the doctors want him to be fully
recovered when he went back. He is back walking although the have given him a walker to walk on,
he can now walk by himself. As far as the seizuring of the brain, if it did do any damage you can't
tell at all because all of his senses are in tact. The only slight problem he is having is with
his right knee which is still giving him a little pain. But God is definetly a good God and if
no one else can tell how good he has been to them, I know that I along with the rest of my family
can definitely speak on behalf of God's greatness.
