Corey was born April 16, 2002 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville, AR to Pamela and Corey Bates
Sr. Corey was born without a vile in his heart which caused him not to get enough oxygen or blood flow
to his heart. He was airlifted to Little Rock, where they told his parents there was nothing they could do.
From there he was taken to the Arkansas Children Hospital. Doctors there told his parents they were not
certain, but they would do what they could.
Corey then had his first surgery, which took 16 hours.
After the first surgery, doctors had to keep his chest open for days due to the fact they had to keep
going in. In all, Corey had 7 Open Heart Surgeries on the same side. Doctors have told his parents that
they will have to operate on the other side when he turns 4 years of age. We thank God that Corey too
